Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is described as "a condition where a single individual evidences two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment."
The reason I bring this up is to make that case that humans, for the most part, suffer from this. Stories such as that of Herbie the calf illustrate the human psyche. The video below is a heart-warming story of a young calf who managed to escape his owner en route to slaughter. The news grabbed hold of this and squeezed it for all it was worth. In the video below you'll see the reporter mock-interviewing the cow, everything is so happy and cute!
So why do we care so much about this calf while we still eat beef or veal? The answer: humans suffer from DID. We are touched by this amazing story of an animal escaping death while simultaneously eating our meaty dinners. It's insanity.
